Selected Works

Wind in the Waves,
Steel, 2019
$3,000

This piece is called Wind in the Waves. It is part of a series inspired by fire, water, and various storms. They are symbolic in nature, and each has a compelling personality. This piece is made of welded steel and is painted reflective blues. I cut the details from a 4" x 8" sheet of steel with a plasma torch. Welded them together, sandblasted the piece, and then painted it with various shades of blue to give it a shimmer in the light.

Skuldelev
Steel
$3,900

Skuldelev outlines the sail and hull as they approach, and the churning water in this abstract sculpture. Below are the imagined monsters of the sea. The Skuldelev ships are five original Viking ships recovered from the waterway of Peberrenden at Skuldelev, north of Roskilde in Denmark.

Three Dancers,
Steel,
$6,000

This sculpture embodies the theme of community by inviting spontaneous interaction and celebration of movement. Designed for passersby, it encourages anyone to pause and partake in a quick dance, fostering a sense of connection and joy. I’ve crafted a series of these vibrant dancers, each unique in color and motion, reflecting the diverse expressions of human experience while sharing a collective energy and spirit.

Little Dancers,
Steel,
$3,000

This sculpture engages anyone passing by who wants to pause next to it and have a quick dance. I have created a series of these dancers in a medley of colors and movements. No two are the same, but they share the same energy and spirit.

Minotaur,
Steel,

$ 4,500

Minotaur is the first in a series of sculptures called Chasing Picasso's Ghost. This was inspired by the mystical Minotaur, Picasso's works, the bold evolution of his paintings, and a small-scale series of compositions I was working on. In Greek mythology, the Minotaur is a creature portrayed in Classical times with the head and tail of a bull and the body of a man or, as described by the Roman poet Ovid, a being "part man and part bull." Although three-dimensional, the first four pieces in this series were flat. With this piece, I imagined a garden setting or, better yet, a Labyrinth, as well as a more dimensional take.

Smile,
Steel,
$18,000

Chris Plaisted: Sculptor

Chris Plaisted was born in a tiny NH town surrounded by artists, including his family, many painters, and a neighbor who was a welder and woodcarver, and he seized the opportunity to learn from him. He is an emerging artist drawn to travel, architecture, cities, and water. He works primarily as a sculptor with a studio and workshop near the lake in New Milford, CT, with trains, planes,  boats, and NYC close at hand.

His sculptures evoke emotions drawn from his experiences traveling and observing the world. They are mainly welded steel constructions, but he also uses copper, wood, concrete, and other metals. The work is primarily abstract but often includes figurative elements. His work has appeared in dozens of large-scale outdoor shows nationwide and in galleries.

Christopher resides in New Milford, CT, with his wife, two children, and Leonidas, the dragon.

As a sculptor, I explore the interplay between form, texture, and space. I am particularly interested in the relationship between positive and negative space and how it can be manipulated to create a sense of movement and dynamism within the work.

In terms of form, I am drawn to organic shapes and structures found in nature, which I seek to emulate and abstract in my work. Using materials such as wood, stone, and metal, I aim to create tactile and sensory experiences for viewers, encouraging them to engage with the work visually and physically.

Furthermore, creating a sculpture is just as important as the finished product. As such, I approach each piece with a sense of experimentation and spontaneity, allowing the materials and the act of creation to guide the work.

Ultimately, my goal with this sculpture project is to create works that challenge the viewer's perception of space and form while inviting them to engage with the work on a visceral and emotional level.
