Ryan Lee Crosby Band with Guest Vicki Rummler
Ryan Lee Crosby & Band
Ryan Lee Crosby's new album "At the Blue Front" (featuring Grammy nominated bluesman Jimmy “Duck” Holmes) offers a haunting, hypnotic meld of Bentonia and Hill Country blues. Recorded on reel to reel tape over two afternoons at Holmes’ iconic Bentonia, Mississippi juke joint, the album was produced, recorded and mixed by Crosby, with a selection of original compositions, traditional repertoire and fully improvised songs.
Ryan Lee finds deep inspiration and spiritual refuge in Bentonia, where he has been mentored for six years by Holmes, the man who is widely regarded as the last living master of the style. Blending reverence for tradition with a modern, trance-inducing approach, Crosby's 12 string guitar is complemented by the melodic and harmonic accents of Jay Scheffler's harp and the subtly driving rhythms of Grant Smith on the West African calabash. For Crosby, all these threads weave together through the meditative power of the blues. This is a trip through time to the root of American music - raw, compelling and true.
Vicki Rummler
Vicki Rummler (vocals, piano, guitar, original songs)
Expat singer-songwriter-musician Vicki Rummler brings a moving, funky, fun touch to the current music scene. She currently divides her time between Paris, France and Turin, Italy. Vicki’s style reflects these travels, blending jazz, folk, funk and French songs. Her smooth, joyful vocals reflect the influence of such masters as Bobby McFerrin, Joni Mitchell, Maria João, and, more recently, Feist and Billie Eilish. Vicki’s songs run the gamut from witty to wistful, and her accompaniment on piano and guitar is discreet and sensitive. Her first album, Twinkle, was released in 2004, her second, am I am, in 2011 and her third, Take Two, in 2017. Her latest project, Leaps and Bounds (2022), is a collection of “cabin songs” written during a wilderness artist residency in the Upper Peninsula, Michigan, USA.
